Tip: Recovery for Outlook Data Browser can be used as a preview and recovery tool on both corrupted and healthy files.
The corrupted file processed by Microsoft ScanST.EXE/ScanOST.EXE can not be recovered successfully due to file structure modifications made by Microsoft ScanST.EXE/ScanOST.EXE.
Recovery for Outlook is designed for effective data recovery from corrupted Microsoft Outlook mailboxes. Using Recovery for Outlook allows to avoid the loss of important information. Nowadays Microsoft Outlook textual processor is the most widespread tool for creation any types of mailboxes, including corporate mailboxes.
Recovery for Outlook scans, analyzes the corrupted file and exports all available data from the file. If the mailbox is strongly damaged, some data loss is inevitable. All restored data is saved into a new pst mailbox. After the recovery the mailbox becomes available for processing. Recovery for Outlook repairs folders and messages, notes and contacts, tasks and calendar items, file attachments and so on.
The important fact is that the program only analyzes the damaged file and does not change the original data. Recovery for Outlook works with text files of various formats: Microsoft Outlook mailboxes of different versions (.pst, .ost files).
What if no data to recover detected in your damaged outlook file? You can order a file review by our technical team. In some cases it is possible to retrieve data only manually.
The demo result allows to evaluate recoverability of a particular corrupted outlook mailbox.
There are two typical outcomes of using the demo results:
At first a very important point is to define whether your pst or ost file is corrupted. A outlook file is corrupted when it has inconsistencies that make it impossible to open it with Microsoft Outlook. If while trying to open your pst or ost file you got an error message or the application crashed or the file could open as a mix of random characters, all these are typical symptoms of your outlook file corruption.
The good news is that in most cases a half of corrupted outlook files aren't lost completely. And Recovery for Outlook was exactly created to fix and restore the remaining non-corrupted data from damaged pst or ost files. You will get your data back and will be able to open it with Microsoft Outlook without any errors.
Requires free space on disk about 2.5 size of the mailbox being recovered
Recovery for Outlook repairs corrupted Outlook mailboxes (.pst). The program also supports Exchange Offline Storage Files (.ost).
Supported Outlook versions: 2010, 2007, 2003, XP, 2000, 98 and 97
The recovered data is saved into a new Personal Storage File (.pst) format file. PST files are readable with Outlook or other compatible email client.
New major feature: view and selectively extract mailbox items using the Recovery for Outlook Data Browser.
How can I use the demo version of SecureRecovery for Outlook to determine whether my mailbox will be recoverable?
The demo version is very similar to the full-featured version, but with limits on the number of recoverable messages (letters) in the targeted mailbox.
After running the demo, you will see three recovered letters, with demo text in place of various other elements. Attachments will not be recovered through the demo program. The demo also replaces text with placeholders to identify the recoverable data, and if you do not see any placeholders in a certain area, SecureRecovery for Outlook may not be able to successfully recover that part of the file.
The full version of SecureRecovery for Outlook will be able to restore all of the mailbox, including attachments. We recommend running the demo, looking through the sample recovery file, and using that information when deciding whether to purchase SecureRecovery for Outlook.
How do the product licensing options differ from one another?
Different licensing options are available for commercial and private use, and product features can vary with your licensing scheme. Please review our full Licensing page to make an appropriate decision.
My recovered mailboxes seem physically smaller -- the file sizes are different from what I remember. Is this normal, and does it mean that I am missing data?
This is a normal effect of the Outlook data recovery process.
SecureRecovery for Outlook will not be able to recover some severely corrupted data, and it will replace these bad file areas with blank space. This usually does not affect the readability of your email messages, and file attachments are usually fully accessible. However, the size of your recovered file may be somewhat smaller than the original (corrupted) file.
Size issues can also occur if SecureRecovery for Outlook repairs a file with unsupported features, as the features will not be recreated in the finished file. Finally, the demo version uses placeholders and does not recover any attachments, and this can also decrease the total file size.
When I attempt to open a recovered mailbox, it appears to be blank. What is causing this, and how do I fix the problem?
This is an issue that occurs due to an error in the file write process. It often results from conflicts with antivirus software.
In order to fix the problem, you may need to temporarily deactivate any antivirus programs running on the target computer. To keep your machine protected, be sure to re-enable your virus protection when the data recovery process is completed.
Can I run SecureRecovery for Outlook through the “Run” command in Windows, or create batch files to automate the data recovery process?
Yes, provided that you have a Service or Enterprise license (the Standard license does not support this feature). The command line call for the program is:
olr.exe “”
When creating your calls, you may use ‘*’ to replace groups of symbols (for instance, *.pst) and use ‘?’ as a replacement for individual characters (for instance, ???July.pst). Always create the directory for the recovered Outlook files before you run the recovery utility.
What are the differences between SecureRecovery for Outlook and the ScanPST utility provided by Microsoft? Will my chances of a full recovery increase if I use both of these programs?
Also known as the InboxRepair tool, Microsoft’s ScanPST is a powerful program that allows users to restore corrupt mailboxes.
Unfortunately, it is not comprehensive, and it cannot treat certain types of corruption. This is especially true when part of a file’s internal structure has been overwritten or damaged. SecureRecovery for Outlook attempts to restore and fix incorrect structures within a PST file, while ScanPST simply eliminates these inconsistencies. SecureRecovery for Outlook will therefore provide the best overall chances of success.
Before using any data recovery tool, back up the target files (in this case, the corrupt PST files) to avoid accidental data loss
Will this program treat Outlook Express files?
This application is designed for files created with Outlook, not files created with Outlook Express. To recover corrupt Outlook Express data, please use SecureRecovery for Outlook Express.
